Those who compare their happiness to others' will never be truly happy. That happiness is elusive. You will always have something to compete against.There is a wise saying that the only reason you should look in your neighbor's plate should be to make sure that he has enough (and never to compare). I feel for the jealous. They're not necessarily bad, just mistaken about who they should be. And their suffering is a fruit of their own misguided ambitions.
Trouble is only they can spare themselves and disentangle the knots in their minds.
Because by being self-satisfied and content, you're doing more of a favor to yourself than the people whose happiness presents you with a challenge to feel 'as happy'.
