As a developing nation which is getting increasingly polluted with time and where fuel prices are sky rocketing every day,can we afford the inferiority complex that arises with using the most economical & environment friendly means of transportation : bicycles?
It's ironic that for a nation which is struggling on all fronts for its survival, this option is merely disregarded for being symbolic of a low socio-economic status ( with women there is an additional question of its propriety) while students in developed countries ride their bicycles to their institutes without a trace of shame (as should be)
I am all for destroying these baseless concepts of social disgrace that are paving way for our country to deteriorate further but point in notice, we belong to a country where extravagance is a source of pride. Here parents save their whole lives, here fathers work their asses off to marry their children in an extravagant non-private affair where all the money goes to waste after a (useless) lavish display. These life-long efforts are aimed more at meeting  the standards of the society than glorifying a a sacred union.
We are obsessed with status symbols. Beyond recovery.
