Misdirected sympathies

Fahad Mustafa played the role of a man who occassionally beats his wife and loves her deeply rest of the time ('Kankar' on Hum TV) . One day unfortunately, the beating results in her having a miscarriage. The wife is not your average Pakistani woman. She decides not to forgive him and seeks divorce.
After the drama had ended, Fahad Mustafa had a startling fact to reveal on his morning show. He said that he was surprised by the sympathy shown to him by real life people, men and women alike for having to deal with such a stubborn, headstrong woman in the drama who was not honorable enough to compromise for the sake of her family.
He was surprised that people missed the point of his abuse, and remembered the point of her protest.
They recalled that he had spent money on her so lavishly. He made her enjoy the riches and bought her a car despite her poor background.
It was hard for the people to comprehend that how a little beating came to be a deal breaker in such an otherwise ideal life for a girl? 'Bullshit'
They said. 'Such dramas give 'ideas' to young girls who are now already becoming averse to compromises they have to make in married life'.
!Mujay izzat chahye ( I need respect) She had maintained.
.Izzzat??? Blah. Ghar bachao, Ghar! (respect, what the hell? save your home) People had given verdict.
I don't have an ear for gossip but that's the general outlook on the issue as I gathered from heated discussions in my friends/college/family circle.
And I ? I just assumed silence in the reverence of our misdirected sympathies,.
I do not say domestic violence is restricted to our social set up. It happens all around the world.
But only HERE do you see its defense. Only HERE do you see acceptance of such behavior by

society as 'normal'. And THAT is why I choose to be such an outcast. Such a rebel.
