The people who beat their children and then say ' a little beating doesn't hurt, after all, we turned out alright'. As far as i can see, you didn't turn out alright, you turned out to be people who think beating someone weaker than you just because you can, is ok.
Parents say : you'd only know if you have taken care of kids, like a mother how tiring it is.
True. I know the work of a mother is never-ending and in all seriousness, exhausting. It's true that hanging out with kids because you like them and having responsibility of them are two different matters and i can't logically speak on the end of the mother as i haven't been one but there's one thing i can say about beating children:
Beating inspires fear, it DOES NOT inculcate in children the reasoning that is necessary for them to abstain from a certain thing that is harmful or unwanted.

Parents say : There is a need to tell children that there are some limits they can't cross, some things they can't do, some things they can't get
True. But the way of telling them should be one that makes them reflect on their behavior instead of just shutting them up with violent force. If the child is convinced that he is right, beating him communicates ONLY ONE idea to him/her : It is okay for the mighty to use force when they can't get the weaker to agree. Don't be surprised if such children are prone to these ideas later in life. Might is right is the rule in some cultures. In others, Not.

Parents say : Sometimes kids are impervious to all reasoning and repeat a mistake no matter how often they are reminded . There is no option left.
True and False. There is always another option left. There are less violent means such as by way of negative reinforcement you can take away some privilege from them, you can ground them or cancel a treat. it is bound to 'stop' them in a way that is NOT harmful to their self respect and dignity. Because in life they will keep on facing this. They will realize that some perks are enjoyed at the price of maintaining discipline. When they cut a wrong turn, their license might be taken away. They will not be 'beaten'. The discipline is what makes the roads safe for them. So they will pay a price to violate the rules that are made in their interest. Being reminded of this is different from being 'silenced' with use of force. Tomorrow if someone crosses them, or as a future employer they are offended by the employee, they won't exercise the right to 'beat them because it will not present itself as an option.

In the end, i'd like to raise an individual that doesn't learn the wrong ideas about the use of power from me, someone i can reason with. and in my experience , i can reason with kids 100 out of 100 times. Yes. 100/100 and i am not a fan of made up statistics.
