We want to feel wronged so that we feel justified in our bitterness. It takes a greater amount of effort to love, and to be forgiving. But we are not willing to do that. We will cling to those tiny, rusty memories about a thing or a person, or life in general which distract us from all the good in it, which deviate our minds from the beauty of the over-all picture. It feels better to meet your expectations, that you have managed to alienate all the people in your life. It feels better to be distraught. I think, sometimes there is even a relief in having your bad expectations being met. It takes away the burden to feel positive. Instead of hoping for the good things, we then hope on a hidden level that we are proved wrong about expecting the bad things to happen.
